Feeling Stuck? The 7 steps to freeing yourself from the “Stuck Zone”
It’s very common to feel stuck. The average business owner will find themselves…
- stuck working long hours for too little reward;
- stuck at the “beck & call” of their demanding clients; and,
- stuck trying to move their business forward but not succeeding at the rate they want to.
Let’s face it…the Stuck Zone is a very painful place to be. It usually means you aren’t getting to spend enough time as you want with family and friends, that you aren’t earning the amount you want to or need and it can be very stressful.
What’s going to happen if you stay in the Stuck Zone?
Probably a whole heap of pain! You probably keep telling yourself everything will be fine once you gain another couple of clients but in reality that won’t change anything.
So how do you free yourself from the Stuck Zone? How can you start to rebalance those working hours, increase the revenue and profit and take more time off?
This comes down to doing several things differently.
Step 1: You make “freeing” yourself a priority. Realistically this will take time and effort to achieve so you need to agree that it’s a priority for you to do it. You need to acknowledge that this is as important as doing client work! If you don’t feel it is as important as client work you simply won’t make the progress and you’ll stay in the painful stuck zone.
Step 2: Book time in your diary to work on freeing yourself. This is an important appointment just like meeting a client is; so book it in and keep it.
Step 3: Write yourself a pretend contract outlining the number of hours you are willing to work. You need to dictate this and not your business. Do you appreciate the shift in the relationship? Up to this point you have let your business (basically your clients) dictate how many hours you will work to get everything done. Now you are going to turn this on its head and define the number of hours you are willing to work.
Step 4: Review your pricing and charging structure. This can add a nice amount of money straight to your bottom line. It’s time you started to value yourself and your time!
Step 5: Work out how to manage your clients and structure your day so you can achieve everything in the time you have available.
Step 6: Define the new sales targets you want to hit which will result in you nicely growing your business.
Step 7: Track your progress!
I know that it takes a significant amount of determination to take those 7 steps to freeing yourself from the Stuck Zone, and then to stick to the new ways of working required to ensure the growth continues. But I promise you they absolutely work.
I know they do because I use them continually to help free my clients from their Stuck Zones.
