Homer Simpson: “I don’t want you to try; I want you to win.”

What an insightful quote.  It’s so true.

We can spend an awful lot of time, effort & money trying.

When I think of trying it makes me feel like it’s going to be laborious and challenging.

I don’t wake up in the morning eager to spend my time trying.

My focus is on winning.

Winning will mean different things to all of us and that’s totally fine and how it should be.

One thing I’m sure of though is that we all want to achieve our definition of winning.

My interpretation of Homer’s “winning” is achieving our definition of success. 

What’s your definition of success?

Would achieving that feel like winning?

I often feel like I’m winning as I journey to my definition of success.

I think Homer is right

Forget trying and start winning

Why is trying a negative thing?

Because it’s easy to “try”.

It’s too easy to tick the “trying” box.

You can achieve “trying” with minimal effort or commitment to the overall goal.

To me “trying” is like paying lip service.

I often hear people say they want to grow their business but what they actually mean is “it would be nice but I can’t be overly bothered with putting any focused effort into it.”  That is paying lip service to it.

That just doesn’t work for me.

Is “winning” difficult?

It doesn’t have to be.

It usually takes focus and a bit of planning and then time to implement but none of that has to be difficult.

Growing a business doesn’t have to be difficult.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist.

The main ingredient is implementation and even that can be done in 20 mins a day.

Stop “playing around the edges

Stop dabbling.

Stop tinkering.

Start committing.

Start focusing

And start winning.

Be more like Homer™!
