I’m a huge believer in “practice what you preach”. All the advice I give to my clients, on my website and through Fish & Tips is based on my experience.
I’m a working mum which means that I have to make sure every minute of my working day is fully utilised otherwise I can’t take off as much time as I want to be with my girls.
As I have a full and vibrant consultancy practice I have always been very focused on using every trick I can to squeeze more into my day but not by working longer hours, so I was pretty sure my diary management was as good as it could reasonably be.
As all business owners I have to juggle the usual combination of client work, business development and business admin so I thought my diary was well optimised.
On Saturday morning I sat down with a piece of paper and a pencil (who needs technology) and mapped out my entire month. This includes 7 to 10 networking events, at least 4 days of business development time and a minimum of 20 client meetings plus admin time. In my head this wouldn’t leave any time spare as it felt like my diary was maxed out.
To my total surprise, with some straightforward changes I managed to create 50% more time in my diary. This does not change my start and end times for each day, nor does it include working more days than I currently do and still lets me pick up my girls early from school when they aren’t doing after school activities.
I promise there was no ninja productivity tricks, all I did was make sure I fully maximised each day.
So how much more optimised could your diary be? How much more time could you be spending on business development if you changed how you managed your current time? How much more time off could you be taking?
Take action today and get re-organising your time!
