Business Growth: Looking for the silver bullet?

Bullet flyingSo what is the silver bullet for growing your business? What is the single “thing” you can do to make the leap in your revenue and profits that you are after?

Having worked with numerous business owners, watched even more and also grown my own business, I know what it’s like to be searching the internet to find that “thing” that can make the difference you are after.

Is there a quick fix to growing your business?

Our desire tends to be to find a quick fix. A “done in a weekend” solution that enables you to hit the growth targets you are after. Even though we all acknowledge that it takes time to grow, deep down we all want the quick solution. And why not?! It would be daft to want to take the slow boat when a speed boat is available.

The challenge

The challenge comes down to working out what exactly you need to do to grow your business. It’s easy to find yourself working very hard at growing but not actually achieving much growth at all. Have you found that? But when you’re in the thick of it, it can be massively challenging to figure out which bit is missing or broken.

You need to analyse your situation carefully to figure out exactly where the challenge is.

If you don’t have enough clients then your issue is likely to be one or more of these:

1. Wrong/poor marketing message
2. Not enough marketing activity aka you are a well kept secret
3. Wrong service/product for the market you are after
4. Pricing strategy isn’t right

If you are time-starved then the challenge is likely to be:

5. Over-delivering and/or under-charging
6. Not allowing for enough time to do each piece of work
7. Lack of boundaries with your client management
8. Struggling with your own time management

The solution

So is there a silver bullet, done in a weekend fix for growing your business? In my opinion the answer is no. But….you can make some very significant improvements in a very short space of time IF you are very clear sighted on what needs to be done to achieve the improvement.

Step 1: Analyse your current situation and work out exactly where the issues lie.

Step 2: Build a plan to fix the issue(s).

Step 3: Implement the plan in small bit sized steps and try to change one thing at a time so you can have confidence that the changes are working. If you change too much at once it’ll be hard to unpick what’s worked and what’s not!

Step 4: Keep at it. Don’t get disheartened but do be realistic. None of us are experts at everything so if you struggle to improve your results it might be time to seek expert assistance.

The silver bullet

The silver bullet to growing your business actually sits with you. The silver bullet is the moment you decide to take total ownership for your business success and you start to step things up a level to attain the results you are after. I promise you it really can be that straightforward.
Go and start your analysis today to work out how you can achieve the results you want.
